Rain, Rain Go Away
I started to feel better today. Not much coughing, a bit of sneezing and runny nose and more weakness than anything else. Today was the Chronic Illness Support Group meeting. So I knew I had to get my butt in gear and get out of the house. The reason I say “had to” was we began meeting at my church now and we were told that a few people would be coming.
I didn’t want to leave my co-leader alone as this isn’t her church so I felt obligated. I guess that’s a better word.
It was a rainy day and depending on where you live (in Florida it can be sunny on one side of the street but pouring on the other) it was either just a drizzly rain or a thunderstorm. Those of us who have medical issues know that when it’s rainy, humid, or just plain dreary we sometimes feel worse. I don’t know why, it just is.
It ended up that we had 4 people at our meeting including me and my friend/co-leader. The other two women were my other friend who is our Children’s Ministry Leader and my aunt. Thinking of the glass half full, we had a good time. We prayed for those in our group that are sick, have had surgery or are recovering from surgery. We learned more about each other. We laughed, helped each other through talking about some difficult issues and enjoyed our time together.
I just wish it didn’t rain.

I always wondered what attendance was like for chronic illness groups… I never feel like going anywhere when I’m sick so you would think it would be near impossible to have group meetings if everyone felt that way. How has attendance been prior?

We have a total of 18 members. It is a difficult thing to have many members attend at once. Our largest group was 11, smallest was four - yesterday. But we do keep in touch during the month by phone, email and snail mail (send cards to people who aren’t doing well, etc.).
We only meet once a month for this reason too.
