Results Are In
I called my Primary Doctor’s Office this morning to check on my lab results. I found out that everything was normal - big sigh of relief - and that the office calls people with lab results whether they are normal or abnormal. That is quite unusual. In fact I’ve never gotten a phone call with good news from any doctors office. Usually it’s “no news or good news”.
So OK I’m off to my Rheumatologist’s office for my regular check up thinking everything is hunky dory. I get into the exam room and we chat a bit. He’s very nice and sees you as a whole person so he always asks how things are as he knows stress can make a chronic condition worse.
He does his exam and then says that he’s going to check my blood work. Well OK I already know that it’s fine. He says that he can’t believe that I’m not anemic for the first time ever. That’s excellent news for me. I’m really excited about that. My thyroid checked out fine too, great. Then he says, rolling his chair over to me, “Take a Look at this. Your Potassium Level is low again.” How can that be, but sure enough it’s low and I’m already on the prescription Potassium. Now I’m to increase it to 3 times a day.
How did my Primary Doctor’s office miss that? My Potassium level is very important. Because I have Myasthenia Gravis I need to maintain at least a normal potassium level or it can make my condition worse. Also low potassium, also known as hypokalemia, can cause weakness and other symptoms that I don’t want or need.
Add another pill to my regime.

Oh, man. I had just the opposite happen … my potassium level was “dangerously” high. I discovered I was eating way too many foods high in potassium. Then I discovered that just about everything has potassium in it. :^p
It can be very disconcerting adding another med. Just getting up, remembering what to take and when can be daunting.
Congrats on not being anemic! That’s huge good news. I hope the increase in the med helps.
Take care.

Even though you have to up your dosage of potassium, the rest of it is good news and it’s fantastic that you aren’t anemic! I’m almost hesitant to get mine checked again for fear that I am! I really need to take a multivitamin with iron but I just can’t tolerate the sick feeling that goes along with it. I’m such a wuss!

That’s great news about the iron levels, shame about the potassium though, but you’ll get that sorted out…
I just popped in to say thanks for stopping over and for complimenting me on my writing, it made my day!
