Waiting Not Worrying
I got a phone call while I was out today. Most of the time I’m home almost all day but of course today I wasn’t home until 4PM. The call was from my Primary Doctor’s office. The message was that I was to call the office about my blood test results.
I get blood tests every three months from my rhuematologist who keeps track of my levels for the inflammatory diseases like Rheumatoid Arthritis and Sjogren’s Syndrome. He also orders a CBC which is to keep track of my blood count as I am anemic. My primary doctor asked if he would add a thyroid test as it’s likely for me to develop problems with my thyroid.
When I got home I called her office but got her answering machine. At first I started to worry about my thyroid and began imagining the worst. Was I going to have to go on medication that would cause me to gain weight? Was I going to lose weight, get more fatigued? Would I need plus size clothing?
After a few minutes I calmed down. She hasn’t seen my lab results before. Most likely she saw the anemia and since it’s an abnormal finding she had to tell me. Nothing new to me and nothing to worry about either. I’m done with Iron IV’s when my Red Blood count was in the 9’s. If it’s in the high 10 - 11 range I’m positive that just continuing on multivitamins with Iron will be the answer. So no worrying for me. I need some good sleep tonight. Plus I have my regular appointment with my rheumatologist tomorrow. I’ll get two opinions for the price of one.

Ugh … I hate waiting for results. I just went through that. Hope your doctor’s visit goes well.

Hopefully there’s nothing surprising with your test results. I’ve had to wait an entire weekend once and it about near drove me crazy when it was just my iron levels being down right again. I run borderline anemic most of the time but was bad enough to need iron infusions for awhile a year or so ago. Chances are pretty good my levels are back down again but I really don’t want to go through the infusions again. Anyhow, enough about me - good luck at your appointment tomorrow!
