PFT

I had my annual pulmonary function test today. The respiratory therapist that did it was new but very nice. He was a bit talkative and so I am I so that made for an interesting breathing test!

I asked him if he had ever treated anyone with Myasthenia Gravis before. He told me that he had. He had worked in a rehab hospital for the VA. He went on to tell me about how I should be exercising. Yes I know that I need to move around as much as I can. But when he started talking about using weights and resistance and knowing how much weight to use, I started to think he was a little crazy. Did he get MG mixed up with some other disease?

With MG muscle weakness is caused by problems with synapses in the cells that control muscles. It’s not like I can make my muscles stronger by using weights. I was too tired to go into one of my teaching moments so I just let it slide.

I just wish that if someone in the medical field doesn’t know about something they’d be honest and say so. I don’t expect them to know all of the answers. Maybe it’s a pride thing?
