American Idol Fans Are Whacked

I still can’t believe the latest shocker of the American Idol season. Jason Castro is cute and he can do some amazing things with his versions of songs like Over The Rainbow and Hallelujah . He has a decent voice, good stage presence but his version of Memory was like Randy said, “…a train wreck…” So why didn’t he get booted? Well I guess since American Idol has become the show where tweens and teen girls vote based on looks and not on talent. I don’t really know, but I know that this video makes it pretty clear why Jason should have been voted off:

Now compare this to Carly Smithson’s Jesus Christ Superstar:

So tell me, how can she be gone after that fantastic singing? Is it her tats? Is it because the females are slowly going (due to above)? Maybe it was Simon’s kiss of death?

I used to love this show but it is getting worse with each season. Forget about the voting. Get rid of Paula. Choose a judge who knows about music in her place and let the judges vote only. Maybe then we’ll get the real talent to stay on and even win for once.

I watched her performance of JCS, and honestly, I thought it sucked.
She didn’t sing it, IMO, she screamed it.
That song isn’t meant to be shouted like that, it’s meant to be full of voice, clear wording. I could barely understand the lyrics she was singing, and I know JCS, I performed in it in my church when I was young. I’m also a huge fan of the original musical and the movie version.
It wasn’t meant to be so brash.

I don’t think Castro did an amazing job, but Memory is a very difficult song to sing. It was definitely the wrong song choice for him, he doesn’t have the range for it at all.

She got a good review from the panel and I think she deserved it.

Don’t understand why you’re so surprised though. Idol is not about talent. It’s about making idols, superstars, meaning; we need more feminine sexless guys and anorectic women!

I really haven’t watched the show at all this season nor did I watch it last season after the first few weeks because it was, like you said, more of a personality contest than a singing competition (as Simon likes to point out). Maybe they should put it on hiatus for awhile and then bring it back with some new judges?

@ Kat I guess we all all can agree to disagree!

@Sigg I’m using Comment Luv as a plugin. Good laugh about American Idol’s winners!

@ Linda Last year I watched it straight through because of who should have been a winner, Blake Lewis. I even voted dozens of times for him through out the show. On the last show I can’t tell you how much I voted. He was an original!
