You Gotta Have Friends

This morning I tried to update my blog to WP 2.5.1 but I really wanted my friend, Coleman to be online with me while I did it. I was afraid I was going to mess it up. So we worked together on Yahoo IM chat. Thank goodness he was there to help me because I totally messed up my blog.

I had worked with him before when I had to upgrade to 2.5 and wrote down the directions so I really thought this would just be him listening to me read them out loud while I was following them. Of course that wasn’t the case at all. I don’t know how or why but I totally messed up and lost my blog.

Coleman’s post WordPress 2.51 and Automatic Updates Of Your Data Base goes into detail about some of the problems people are having with this update. If it weren’t for him this morning I never would have had my blog up and running today. He is also the owner of File-House, which hosts websites, images, blogs and more. His patience and one on one work with his customers is just the kind of thing that I need.

On a bit different note but one concerning friendship, I and my dear friend Darlene worked together again today on getting ready for the big day, Saturday May 3rd, for our church’s Single Mothers’ Appreciation Day. We got the goody bags for the moms started, fixed up all of the baskets and even got some of the children’s items ready for their bags. We work like a team and move quickly. We needed to as we had a big change in the number of attendees.

We went from having 6 mothers registered up to 24 now! That number may grow because we lost phone service, cable and internet connection today. There were more phone numbers on my caller ID of people I don’t know than there were phone messages. So there may be more mothers coming. I’ll be calling them tomorrow.

Thank God for helping this ministry along!

Here’s a great tip for upgrading WordPress quickly and (usually) painlessly. There’s a plugin called “Wp-Auto-Upgrade.” The latest version — 1.1 — is available from the WordPress plugin site linked in the WP dashboard.

It really works well. I used it yesterday to upgrade a WP 2.3.1 (yes, I know!) and a WP 2.5 both to WP 2.5.1. In each case, the process took less than 10 minutes, counting the extra time I took to reactivate some plugins and update some plugins.

I don’t have the link to the plugin, but you can search the WP plugin site and/or Google it.

It is great to have friends help you with your computer and with your church projects.
Glad you have the newest version of WP finally! You are doing a great job, just believe in yourself.:)

I upgraded 1 blog, and that’s where I’m stopping. I HATE the new layout, and on the one blog I did upgrade I’m having huge issues now with comments.

    *sigh*

Not every upgrade can go perfect though, right?

But…I’ve been working with the MCL database on a test site, and I think I finally have things fixed. I’ll try to get it all put together later today!
