Death and Destruction in Myanmar

I’ve been complaining about gas prices and how much I’m paying for groceries. Then I watched and read about the horrific situation in Myanmar (Burma). When a cyclone hit on Saturday, May 3rd the country was not prepared. The government had notice of the cyclone but did not disclose the information to the people most likely to be affected.

As of now the UN states that 65,000 people are dead or missing. This number may rise if relief agencies can reach the area. The UN has currently stopped sending aid to Myanmar because the junta (the military arm of the government) has taken control of the food, relief packages and equipment. There is no way of knowing if anything is getting to the people who need it.

There have been public pleas from the UN, the US and other countries to allow aid to reach those in need. So far this has not happened. Please think of this when you fill up your gas tank or eat a meal today. Say a prayer and see how you can help. I pray that the US does not have to resort to military force in this situation, but as time goes on this may be the case. We cannot sit by and watch more people die. The people of Myanmar cannot take up for themselves this time.
