Chalk to Drink

Today I went for the CT scan of my abdomen. Before the test I had to drink two bottles of contrast. I had done this type of test before but it was a long time ago. I’ve had so many tests done that it gets more difficult to remember what is what anymore.
Some friends said the contrast wasn’t bad. It usually is flavored. It’s not like the barium you have to drink for other types of tests. Were they wrong. Even though it was refrigerated to make it “taste better” as told by the lab, I felt like I was drinking liquid chalk. Because my tummy is upset already and I wasn’t able to eat any solid food, not that I could, it was tough getting that stuff down and keeping it down.
I had one hour to drink the first bottle. I was struggling to finish it before I had to open and drink the other one. Don’t tell anyone but I didn’t actually finish the second bottle. When I got to the hospital for the test I was given a cup of guess what? More contrast! I just chugged it down and prayed it would stay down as I went through the test. It did. I lived. Another test done and over with.
I get the results in about 4 days, which means I probably won’t hear anything until Monday. Tomorrow is my appointment with my neurologist at the MDA clinic. More fun!

Ah yes, liquid chalk, I remember it well and I would never tell you that doesn’t taste bad because it does! You would think that with all the advances in modern medicine that they could make a contrast that was a little tastier than what they’ve got. Hope the results are good after all that!
