First Day & Day Off

Ah back to school time! The excitement, the jitters, the fun! Peanut surprised me so much this morning, her first day of school.  She changed her mind about my walking her to class like I’ve done every year (well except for Kindgergarten when Hubby had to walk her & wheel me).

Instead I drove her around the circle in front of the school to drop her off.  The teacher that opened the door and got her out started to talk to her and Peanut was off without even saying goodbye.  I had to roll down the window to yell, “Goodbye”. I then realized that she didn’t kiss me either. I drove home in tears realizing that my little girl was growing up.

I was OK once I got home and was thankful that she didn’t have issues with starting school. After all she’s in fourth grade now and wants to be a big girl.

I spent the morning blogging and doing some other work on the net. When I took a break for lunch, I put the TV on. I found out that the schools in our area of Florida would be closed tomorrow due to Tropical Storm Fay. I knew that this would be even more exciting news for Peanut.

Peanut had lots to tell me when I picked her up after school. She loves her teachers. She has two this year. One teaches Math, Science and Social Studies and the other teaches Reading, Spelling and Writing. There will be a lot more work than last year but that’s to be expected. She was happy to see her friends again and is already making play dates. Things are off to a good start.

One day of school and one day off already. Hopefully we’ll be fine and Tropical Storm Fay will just pass right by us.

Glad to hear that Peanut had a good first day at school.

I’m a bit worried about Hurricane Fay as Jamie is right back down there in the thick of things and this will be her first hurricane. Hopefully it misses you all and goes away to nothing.

    Sending good thoughts and prayers!

They grow-up so (too) fast, I see that on my son too. I’m glad she likes her teachers, that’s something very important for successful school year.
In Portugal school only begins between September 12th and 15th so it’s nice to read about all the US kids that are going back to school now.

Your peanut is growing up. it is amazing how quickly it all happens which is why I cherish the moments with my baby. I know he will not be a baby forever.
