Going Green In My Home Office
I am trying to do all I can to go green. It’s not just for me but for my two daughters. I want them to live in a world where there is safe air to breathe, clean water, no fear of global warming and either new energy sources or a way to purchase fuel without having to mortgage a house.
So we recycle, reuse and save water, electricity and gas. I’ve taught my children about how important it is to respect the earth and take care of it from when they were babies. My youngest, Peanut learns about being green at school. She celebrates Earth Day. My oldest has done research for her college classes on global warming and lives a green life. I’m proud of what I’ve taught them.
I want to continue to learn and do things that will help me to stay environmentally friendly in all that I do. One of the areas I’m working on is my home office. I shut down my computer at night to save electricity, save paper and reuse it, own a printer that shuts down when not in use and I buy recycled paper.
Major companies, like Canon and Sony are going green. This is a marketing trend that helps consumers like me find the products I need without worrying if they will damage the environment. Canon’s new initiative is called, Generation Green and they have three categories for their printers and printer parts, Eco-Conscious, Eco-Standards and Eco-Friendly. Sony has made a hand powered digital camera with a built in generator. Now I doubt I’ll need that, but just knowing that this is where they are putting their research into makes me comfortable to know that their other products are going to be eco-friendly too.
There’s a company that caters to eco-conscious home based businesses and larger businesses by carrying brand name products that are environmentally friendly. Super Warehouse is not only a one-stop store but can be considered a green company too.
My next big purchase for my home business will be a laptop. After doing some research I’ve learned that Apple laptops have been named the most environmentally friendly portable computer by the Environmental Protection Agency in 2007. Apple Macbook Pro’s now have an aluminum case which is eco-friendly. With this information, my laptop purchase my be an Apple. I hope it will be soon!
I don’t need toner cartridges that often but when I do I’ll be sure to look for the kind that are made of plastic. HP Printers are now being made entirely of plastic. When I’m in the market for a new printer that brand will be top on my list.
Hopefully if I do get to purchase my laptop I won’t need a new desktop but just in case, my inquiring mind learned that Sony Desktops are producing computers that are able to be recycled because they are reducing the hazardous substances like lead, calcium and mercury.
The great thing is that all of these products are available at Super Warehouse. No more driving from one store to another. No more wondering if what you need is available. It’s all there in one place.
I’ve hit on most of the rooms of my home now. I’ll be checking into more ways to go green as our society is learning and growing every day in that area. It’s nice to know that a place where I spend a lot of time, my home office, can now become another source for me to contribute to a better and cleaner environment and that there is one store to help me accomplish this.

It’s good you are looking for ways to go green. It is unfortunate that so many illegitimate companies have hopped on the ‘Green’ bandwagon for easy cash without much green. I sure hope that Super Warehouse is as green as they seem. Regardless, keep up the good fight and keep trying to make a difference.
Any thoughts of supplementing some of your electricity use with solar? I’ve been thinking about it quite a bit lately.
