Horses and Reading

Thank goodness that Peanut has a good imagination and really enjoys reading. Again this year at school she has to read 2o minutes per day. I never have to force her or even remind her to do this part of her homework. She even reads on weekends.
She is enjoying reading about horses now. One of the series she’s taking a liking to is the Saddle Club Series (Horse Shy, Dream Horse, Rodeo Rider, Horse Trade) (The Saddle Club, 2, 4, 12, 38). She’s not asking for a pony or riding lessons, thank goodness. But she is learning about history, relationships, english saddles, and the adventures that girls her age can have.
One of my favorite things to do with Peanut is for us to read together. We sit close together, both very quiet, maybe eating a snack and get into the story we’re enjoying. It makes me so happy to know that she will have a life long hobby that will always keep her occupied.

Oh wow, the Saddle Club! I haven’t seen those books around in ages, let alone read them. I enjoyed reading them when they first came out.
They were definately entertaining and well written.
If you and your daughter like horses you may want to check out “Chosen by a Horse” by Susan Richards. I found it very enjoyable. You can read a review I wrote of the book here

I love reading with my kids. One of my favorite memories is when my son began to read to me! Love it!

I just love horses! I grew up around them but it has been years since I’ve rode. I envy you.
