NaNoWrimo or National Novel Writing Month is a forum for people all over the world to encourage and inspire people to write a novel in one month. This is a yearly event that occurs every November.
I’ve always dreamed of being an author. I guess that’s one reason that blogging appeals so much to me. But write a book in one month? Can I do that? If it’s a book of short stories perhaps. If I didn’t have to do anything else expect write, perhaps. If I could type faster and more accurately and not worry about my arthritic hands hurting, perhaps.
Curious to see my typing speed, I took an online test and found out that I only type 41 wpm. That’s a lot worse than I thought. I think I was nervous, thanks a lot Dragon’s typing speed test!
After taking this test, I saw that the Dragon Naturally Speaking Speech Recognition System did a heck of a better job than I did. Not only would I save time but my hands would feel a lot better too. Since I don’t use a Mac, I’d chose the PC version of Dragon.
I checked out the Dragon Reviews and saw that people like it and use it for every day use, not only book writing. So beyond my wish to write a book to be published (I just added that, because I want some fame too), I could use this program for blogging the thing I hate most, writing emails. Talk about saving time.

I have taken that typing test! I love typing tests!! But you can fudge the results you post! If you look at the code you can change your results! I posted it on my blog once upon a time with some outrageous number! (like 2,483 words a minute! ;D
AACK - the videos kept cutting out on me, but the entire premises is fascinating. I type pretty fast - I think it’s 51 words a minute? But wow, if I could type as fast as I speak? Maybe then my blog entries wouldn’t take me hours to write!
Hey, that’s pretty cool! I took the typing test and got a 62. Not great, but not too bad for just having woken up. I bookmarked it so I can keep at it. And speech recognition software is a great idea!
I think you should definitely get at that novel. I don’t know if it’s possible or even preferable to write your novel in an hour, but if trying to do so provides you with a quick start goal and gets you moving on it, it might not be a such a bad idea. Go for it!

I usually try to do the blog writing version of NaNoWriMo.
That Dragon software sounds interesting. I wonder how it is at screening out background noise? I always have people talking around me when I am writing. There is no such thing as silence in my house
There’s no way you can reasonable write and edit a novel in one month if ther’s anythign else you have to do with your life. Your muse runs out when you push yourself too hard.
Having both participated in NaNoWriMo and used Dragon, I definitely recommend getting Dragon early and training with it as much as possible. It can have good accuracy, but you have to enunciate very clearly and correct it when it’s wrong. It takes some getting used to, and I definitely recommend having a clip-on mic. It’s a good program but there’s a definite learning curve. (Although what the program thinks has been said is sometimes amusing. )
And the point of NaNoWriMo isn’t to write and edit the novel, it’s just to get the first very rough draft done, or at least off to a very good start. Editing month is January, I think. Kitronas last blog post..First of several entries today…

Sounds really useful! If the program works really well, lots of people will be using it (although for different reasons).

I have a free download of that software that I need to review this weekend. I can’t wait to try it out, but I’ve been so busy with other things.
